Underdose

Underdose

A Poem by dining alone

crushing ivory capsules
breathing pearl sand castles
in my reflection
i see the black hole
stained with travelers

the ocean reels me in
the salt tastes like whiskey
and the coral is spaghetti
it makes an italian sweat in his sleep
there's a blue army
of creatures just like me
breathless and pushed along like sheep
they expose our naked bones
and wear the confidentiality
that once kept us warm
my heart shrivels
my thoughts are brittle
death is a riddle

the flash is my cue
stiff and stale
i do not twitch or flail
dormancy is the key
to this hide and seek
breakfast comes to take a peek
i shiver as it decides to bail

octopi juice my brain
until i approach the surface
my pupils purge light
and i am temporarily blind
consciousness dries the sea
i wipe off reality's spit
and watch the ignorant grow happy
they clasp my hands without curiosity
a professional has done all the talking

very very vividly depicted. i don't usually enjoy free-form, but i absolutely love this one... love all the metaphors for sea creatures... very open to many interpretations, and that flexibility makes it a very good poem
