anchored

anchored

A Poem by agalophonos

we are two ships that pass in the night,

and our waves splash each other,

warm and excited. to be moving forward at all

is a luxury we have never had. I am used to

the buoey of us, bobbing steadily and consistently--

unchallenged. the way we used to live.

calm waters. and you kept me afloat as

much as I do you. the feeling of you

is a liferaft, and I grab onto the sound of your

heartbeat, when I can have it.

the tide has changed so fast.

I don’t need you to try to love me anymore,

but I will always need you.

and I will try to forget about

the perfect woman

from a perfect town, where you will never leave.

I am anchored and I am drowning

by what could’ve been

if we hadn’t lost everything.

we suffer because there is a future--

no longer docked at our little infinity
