A Poem by Emily Rose
"

...And another thing! (A continuation of an argument)

"

And there you sit
on your paper throne,
like an aloof and stately Cat,
a Queen among her dogs.

You, my Hart, excel
in the art of the escape,
but Speed is a poor pair of wings
against brutal imagination.

And, as a Lioness
stalks her weary adversary,
your advances never falter,
for your panacea is your Pride.

but, though the humble Nightingale
posts her Watch o’er inky night, unnoticed;
the illustrious Lark abides in secrecy ‘til morning,
and lets the dawn bring her Exaltation.

Author's Note

Emily Rose
Believe it or not, this is one of my angriest poems, intentionally laced with a whole slew of double (and sometimes triple) meanings. The capitalization of seemingly random words is is intentional - they're supposed to serve as hints to lead you to the double meanings. Some of the references are a little hard to understand, however:

1. A "queen" is also a term for a female cat
2. A "hart" is an animal similar to a deer
3. A collection of lions is known as a "pride"
4. A flock of nightingales is a "watch" and
5. A flock of larks is an "exaltation"

Hopefully that clears a few things up!

Yeah, I like this a lot! I love it when the poem has a lot of symbolism and double meanings.
This poem can be really dark and cold, but above all, it's genius.
