Sestina

A Poem by Avery Koski

Sestina

Why should we write a haiku?

Could you write one using pineapple?

“Tap, tap, tap” I tap my pen thinking how to write. Tap, tap.

I decide to change the pace, maybe I should change.

Change was not the right thing to do. “Looking for the exit.”

Exiting the room with everyone starring at you full of pain.

There are many characters in this world that express pain.

People write haikus all the time. I am learning the way of the haiku.

When you can’t do something right you look for the exit.

Change the pace think of something new, got it pineapples.

Pineapples are a new change.

Pineapples were a good change, now something new. Tap, tap, tap.

Yeah we tap slowly to think. We speed up the tap.

We tap so fast we start to feel pain.

The pain starts to hurt, we need to change.

People write about change and pain, this is not one of those painful haikus.

Now have you ever been hit with a pineapple?

It really hurts badly. Start heading for the exit.

You search, and search, and search but you just can’t find the exit.

Since you are stuck again. You think tap, tap, tap.

Tap, tap, tap you are still thinking then BAMM!! Pineapple.

Again why do I keep thinking about pineapples, they just bring some pain.

The pain isn’t bad, but still. Back to haikus.

Still on pineapples, and painful haikus. We do need a change.

Maybe change is to much of a change.

Could the change make an exit.

Maybe the change could be a haiku.

Change could be thinking of something new. Tap.

Change should never be about pain.

Somehow the change always leads back to pineapples.

How does change lead back to pineapples?

Pineapples are not even a very good change.

Thinking about the change and pineapples bring me pain.

I find myself again searching for the exit.

Away from the pain, think, think. Tap, tap.

This is not even close to a good haiku.

How could I write about pineapples and exits?

How do I write about change and tap?

But I can write about pain through a haiku.

Pain with Pineapples.

Change with tap, pain with change.

Change turns into love.
