It is the plague of our times

when a madman leads the blind 

through a micro biome storm

waves of dark energy 

like a steaming asteroid

like a caldera burst

like the great Colombian exchange.

It was not the sword that decimated original peoples 

on this continent

small-chicken-plagues' pox

the flu, and all those corona helices too

swept through an isolated naive immunity pool. 

Now, it has found a new naïveté.

You capture the sense that I have of being baffled -- the way the followers are following this trajectory off a cliff. There's a sense of acceptance in your tone, as if we are powerless to counterbalance the pull of so much blind foolish ignorance, so let's just turn this into a social study.
