In Case You Forget to Breathe

In Case You Forget to Breathe

A Poem by Alexandria Miller

You lie down and cover up and hide from whatever is making you shake and cry and wish you weren’t alive to see the end of this. You feel your whole world crash and swirl and there are explosions in your head but outside there’s crickets. Your whole body trembles like there’s an earthquake all around you until the entire structure falls to pieces. Then you wonder if life could possibly be any worse, then you wonder why you tremble so viciously under the sheets as they wrap around you and choke you. Then your tears turn into yawns and eventually you fall asleep to some bizarre dream that you find difficult to recall in the morning. You know what happened the night before but feel fine now, until the pieces begin to fall again as you walk out the door.
