Year's Turn

Year's Turn

A Poem by Alex Thurley-Ratcliff
"

"

We take the light full in
To sink the shine
The blinding
And the flare
As I walk across the salt marsh
Through the pines and down to the wicked shingle strand

We take the light offered freely
Thieve it and hoard it
Share it grudgingly with few
Keep it against the who knows when
The winter grey and downland sleet
The washed out city days

I have let the round white flame
Lick my face my hands my feet
To clean the night away
I have opened my body to the hope
