The Muse VisitsA Story by Alfred KukitzWonder day with a muse“It’s the set up, stupid. Do you hear me?” Huh? “It’s all in the set up.” I looked at him wondering why I could hear the man who stood outside my apartment door. I am suppose to let him in, I asked himself? Was today wonder day? “Hmmm”. The muse seemed to poke his head out whenever he wanted. Yes..yes..... I thought, it’s the muse. Let him in ya damn fool. Some murmur that passed my ear said, let him in ya damn fool. And so I did. I looked at him cautiously, sizing his body, his métier of style in reality, you know all that literary stuff, that thinkers seem to think they know. “Sit down if you like. Talk to me. Tell me about the setup.” The muse shadowed about, lifting air and sweeping it around him. He dressed black and his manner reflected gentleman mores. He looked further at my images, the small idiosyncrasies of my apartment and sniffed the dirty air within the the rooms. “Schnell-who”! I said but the muse remained quiet, now standing still for the first time. “You know that’s mine. I gave you that. Its comic, nothing more. Try the T-shirt thing...It may happen; it may not.” I smiled. It must be a year that I’ve hung on to that silly invention of a non word. Hanging on, how stupid of me. “Please come here, I want to show you something”. We walked to the apartment door. He opened it. Outside stood a huge picturesque model of a magnificent universe, just floating all over space, lifting us in heights, panoramic dimensions, illusions of gods, imps, angels, magnificent parades of galaxies being borne and dying, all the stuff that really made up the universe. “Incredible....just amazing”. I said. My head felt dazed by some romantic notion of why the muse took me here. “There is a huge clock in all of this. It’s you. It gets in the way of ever corner of space, of every morsel or time and in every cell within your body. There’s nothing you can really do about it. Just live the day. Try and come out here with me when you can. That’s all. He turned to me and looked me in the eye......”Listen.....Have a most blessed day”. © 2014 Alfred KukitzFeatured Review
