Sitting in the Quiet

Sitting in the the quiet
Noise climbing the stairs
I feel a deep sinking in me
Feels good I want to stay here
I look at the quiet
Seem to know its face and grin
Inviting more and more of it in
for a stay among my mind and soul
a bowl of soup thrown in
I'm solo for decades now
and quiet has become a favorite companion.

I relish the quiet time I get. It reminds me of sitting cross-legged on my bed at home, typing on my smith corona. Oh, the hours I must have kept Johnny Carson company!

The quiet becomes a counter-part after a while I assume. You've described it in a way that is assuring but a touch haunting at the same time.

the solitude and solace of the 'quiet companion' - i know her well, my friend, and sit with her frequently... a great description, Al!

even though i am in a relationship...it is long distance...and so my companion is also often that quiet...and it's kind of peaceful, really. And i think the older we get, the less noise we really want to hear...memories are loud enough.
