A Drift into Myth

A Drift into Myth

A Poem by Alfred Kukitz
"

I drift at times

"

A Drift into Myth

I lose my home at times
When I drift into myth
An island where nothing exists
My reach is far, far from any home
I'm dangling as a modifier
in a long sentence formed
After a while my encyclopedia
informs........yes Al the beauty
is written and formed.

steven wright said he was reading a dictionary and thought it was just a "poem about everything"

interesting...yes, "i'm dangling as a modifier" i love that of course...I often feel like a misplaced modifier now...a sixties person out of place in these later decades.

When you write, "I lose my home at times..." and talk of drifting into myth it seems as if you are slipping into dementia or Alzheimer's condition, an illness you may have specialized in during your nursing career. "Dangling as a modifier..." seems to reinforce that theme, as if you are a patient that is simply 'there' and maybe lost in its own relevance, receiving no information save that from the "encyclopedia," perhaps a knowledgeable friend or family member who tries to keep you informed. I may be way off on this but that's what the piece suggested to me. Very nicely written. take care...dan
