Where Have the Toys Gone

Where Have the Toys Gone

A Poem by Alfred Kukitz
"

Inspired by the song Innocence and Experience. This song reminds me of two moments in Vietnam: I see the enemy hands bound behind his back no more than 15 years old at the airport. I'm new in country.

"

Where Have the Toys Gone

In a smile as quaint as tomorrow
where boy meets a horizon of gifts
He sees the ship coming in his mind's eye grin
the toys that please his innocence

Upon the ships arrival
a battered and torn hull did see
The man who promised him
the treasure of every boyhood dream
Lie dead floating upon a sea

His soul shrieked away from life's pleasing
A man found a place to see
that toys were no longer helpful
as he inched himself from childhood
looking round a man to be.

Thanks Moon!

When I see children it often reminds me of the beauty they carry inside themselves. The precious thing here is they don't know it.

Al

Awww...that sounds so terrible, doesn't it....the innocence and bliss that should line anyone's childhood taken away...too soon is always too bad...

As for the poem....deeply sentimental...and I love the metaphor!

Thanks Jacob!

I often listen to the song, recall those memories and feel the genuineness of the moment.

like Where have all the Flowers gone....

there is no childhood in a war torn country...the children don't get to have innocence...they simply have to grow up to the horrors of war...and become little adults way too soon.

this is one of your best, Al...

The second time was handing out candy in a village in Chu Lai.
