LOVE: THE GAME

LOVE: THE GAME

A Poem by Saba Sharif

 I: DOUBTS
Do you love me too?
As much as I love you?
There’s no way to know
‘Cause you will never tell
And I will never show,
Though with every passing minute
Our love, I think, might grow.

II: REALISATION
I saw it in your eyes
As, you must have seen me through.
Just standing there, by the wall
I knew the feeling was true.

III: ACSTASY
For nights, I’ve lain awake
All the time thinking of you.
And all the time my body shakes
When I realize, my love, it’s true.
A state of ecstasy I ‘m in,
As if I’ve drunk of hemlock tree
Or like some Buddhist, reached nirvana.

IV:  FEARS
I knew, you thought, I was cold.
I knew everything was untold.
Still the barriers were too strong
To allow us develop the bond.
No doubt, sweetheart, I knew you
But I knew the world around too.

V: DECISION
No matter how much my heart did bleed,
I decided to stand at my guard.
No matter how much kill it may
No matter how much it may shock.

VI: PAIN
And it pains when I look around and find you not
Its worst than death to lose one’s half
And there’s no one to know.
A severe pain, an aching heart, I bore
Is enough to tell me, I’ll love you evermore.

VII: THE GAME
Two odds might make an even
But it was so untrue for us
So I played being sensible and cold,
As I tried to move on
Though I knew it was causing pain
But we could never have hold on,
Even if, I hadn’t let you gone.

VIII: SOCIAL CIRCLES
We, all, live within 360 degrees,
Our circles, too strong to break,
Set apart with no point of intersection.
So dear, our worlds, we can not share.
And if we ever broke in or out
We will lose control.
The things will fall apart,
And center will refuse to hold.

IX: REFLECTION
Playing safe is the toughest game,
We ever have to play.
With all that battle inside us,
We have to move away.
No matter how much, we want to stay.

X: THE TRUTH
We are buried in our past,
Can never move away
And for once, in my life, in past
I really want to stay.
But that, you will never know,
You are the only one in my life
I have ever felt this way.

XI: AN OPEN ENDING
Tired of being sensible for so long,
Inside my heart, sick of all the fight,
I am losing myself to you tonight.
But tomorrow is another day.
I know, nothing of this pain, to you, I’d ever say.
We will keep on going forever this way:
You will love me true,
As much as I will love you,
But you will dare not tell
As I will dare not show
Still with every passing minute
In doubts and fears, our love will grow.
