Angry Heart

Angry Heart

A Poem by Alma Miller
"

Spoken Word.

"

I have an angry heart

that yearns for a piece

of another person's hopes and dreams a-

nother person's fears to thwart

And just the smallest starts feel like a massive palpitation

it's far from just your everyday anticipation of a life unscarred

and when I can't feel it beating

it scares me more than when it races

when it chases some invisible

imagined crisis

and it's never been picky about who it beats for

about who it pumps for

expands for,

depletes for,

about where it leads me,

about its needs to refrain from conformity

while everyday questioning why it feels so very lonely

I think my heart has things to do its own way

At a slower pace

that lets it process, pause, replay.

I can't say that it's been easy or

that it's ever necessarily saved me from

the anxiety of asking “why”.

But I have an angry heart

and an angry heart

I will have

until the day I die.
