On being rated a ‘top writer’…

Does receiving this badge make me a better writer?
Does it mean that my writing actually is so much better than the writings of other writers, publishing on this site?
Then, what does the fact that I received this badge mean?
First and foremost, it means that my friends and readers appreciate my writing and I am thankful for their constructive reviews and ratings! Their meaning is personal and subjective, but none the less, precious and valuable to me.

Would I have received this badge if my works had been read by others?
I am very well aware of this and I will continue to give the best of myself here!

In the mean time, I noticed that some of my friends (some of them professional writers and editors) produce very valuable work on this site and have not been rated as a top writer yet!

I think this is a shame, because it is their work that has inspired me in some cases, even though sometimes I consulted an explanatory dictionary, just to be on the safe side! In other words those writers have enriched my vocabulary! I would want to share my badge with them!

The people I am writing about surely will recognize themselves and I hope they will hang in there and one day, will receive the badge that they merit!

At first, I wanted to hide my badges (I still do, to be honest). I argued with a few people over their opinion of my writing. I realized that it was a case that they liked them, even if I did not. Without realizing it, I had been telling them they had no taste, no intelligence, and should not try reading anything more than the ingredients on a bottle of water.

The ratings of writers on here is very subjective. I was lucky in a few ways here. One was in the sheer number of pieces that I added. I currently have 771 pieces. For a period of time there, it was difficult not to trip over my adding collected works from over the years. So I caught some reviews. One was in my enjoying to read, and that compulsion that people have to return a review. I would generally read three to four pieces by new writers. I did not leave fluffy reviews, although sometimes I just talked about myself or made fun of the other reviewers. Last but not least, I was lucky enough to catch a review from somebody who had friends. They liked the work. Their friends saw this and read some of my work as well. Eventually, I ended up with several friends of my own.

There are definitely much better writers on here than I, and many of them lack any badges. Before I would feel sorry for them though, I would ask why they do not have their Welcomes New Writers badge before they received their Top Rated Writers badge.

I think when they read this, they'll be happy to be your friend and that you wish to share your badge with them. And in a way...it's like you did by writing this.
