Face value

Face value

A Poem by andrew mitchell

Face value
As the vehicle
of emotion was expressed
in a face,
the body language
carried the feelings
to the letter.

Only when the mask
was removed
one could see
the depth of emotion
was more than just....
face value.

At some point many of us have equated the suppression of emotion as linked to survival. Such is a hair-shirt if you ask me. Fabulous write, Andrew:)

Being an avid clown mask wearer myself, i can really relate to this piece.

Some people are just extremely good at hiding their true emotions behind the mask, making it very difficult for us to understand just what exactly is going on in their hearts and minds. This is especially true for women from a male perspective. The face and body language expresses itself, yet in the hidden depths lurks the true emotion that the person is feeling.
An interesting concept for a poem, well written and concise. Nice work.
