"It was the best of times; it was the worst of times" ...and a bloody hell it was! there are some fascinating myths and histories of that cruel guillotine...especially the events that precluded it's future use .. your title and first lines have your humor but the closing seems pretty serious to me ..our world of violence and savagery seems unchanged in too many places :(((
