A Poem by andrew mitchell
"

Fiction in the exam room.

"
Strange things happen
on the opposite page,
a screeching of the ink
from hurried thoughts,
weird knockings,
an anxious pen,
mysterious messages,
a tale on beautiful women,
the harbouring of a fugitive
on the run.

However, more suspense and mystery
lies on my page, blank,
in the exam room,
the mind still contemplating....

like a dead body,
an abandoned old house,
a ship drifting,
disappearing from view,
the burnt out car,
a pile of rubbish smouldering....in thoughts

the page, the story,
the write that was to become no more.
Was it an accidental death
or just murder?

T'was a cunning plot,
I left no clues,
only the examiner
left his mark.

oh man! this is one of your best sir! i especially enjoyed the added length compared to most of your other poems ... i was right there in the waiting room ..called in for examination and spun spectacularly with your closing ... a fine reading experience for me .. the metaphor of the pages is original and sparks me noodle to imaginations :)

A clever writer intentionally leaves a lot to the readers' imagination. The problem with most people is they don't trust others to figure it out, saying more than they should.
