Trapped in the elusive full circle of ....

Trapped in the elusive full circle of ....

A Poem by andrew mitchell

When I was young I was told
there is so such thing as " I  can't. "
In fact, the word " can't" does not exist,
so my parents told me.
So after several attempts of trying "I can"
the word " can't " presented itself
in the form of " I can't!" once more.
Now, that I'm older I'm virtually told
the words " I can " no longer exists.
So when I say. " I can!"
 I'm told you can't!
" You can't do that!"
" Yes I can!"
" No, you can't"
The three ultimatums are given hence-forth:
You couldn't.
You cannot.
You can't.
A far cry from when I was young!
I've come full circle.

It's great having parents who encourage and my own were always the first to tell me you can do it if you really want to. It's all an attitude of mind. Well at my age I have to accept I won't be climbing Everest even if I want to :) Yes, full circle here. Makes you realise all the opportunities you have let slip by. I really don't think I am going to be one of those adventurous old girls who takes her first parachute jump at 70 or 80. I just can't contemplate that. Your lines made me smile Andrew. All good wishes.
