Secrets

Secrets

A Poem by Amanda Reynolds
"

A poem inspired by "Harlem, A Dream Deferred" by Langston Hughes

"

Carrying a secret is such a heavy load,

Silence once helped,

Saying nothing,

Means you can’t slip up,

But the weight just grows and grows.

Soon you are a silent weightlifter,

Carrying Olympic sized barbells,

Without the muscles and popping veins

To carry it all;

And no winning metals,

or cheers from a crowd,

And the sweat just drips down,

And down.
