Unconditional Warmth

Unconditional Warmth

A Poem by Amber S. Hays

It’s discouraging, life is…
One morning you wake up and it’s snowing outside, and you confide beneath the half-dozen blankets to keep you warm.
The next? Well… it’s summer. But the blankets are all still there.
Smothering the feeling you once had acting as some sort of relief.
Or that’s what you hoped for.
Now it’s just smothering.
But with family.
And friends.
The friends you thought you’d always trust.
You know, life is something else..
Full of false hope and anger.
I remember thinking that one day I’d be happy. That certain accommodations would do the trick. But this morning I woke up and realized it hasn't.
It’s January again. And the blankets are still here.
And I still can’t breathe.

Life can always throw us a curve-ball when we least expect it or want it. But we have to push on through and deal with it head-on. We can choose to avoid it, but only if we want it to come back later to devour us. Strange how each season can make you feel somewhat different, yet the same...strange, but true. And yeah, if you're down, everything seems the same and nothing seems to change.
