What do you think of when you hear the word "child"?  Do you think "beautiful, innocent, a blessing, even a miracle"?  Or do words like messy, needy, annoying, infuriating, or boring come to your mind?  Yes, we may be messy or needy or annoying, but give us a break.  We don't know any better.  We're just children.  We can't be perfect.  We can't be as independant as adults.  We can't even get hired for a job, much less hold one down.  We can' t care for a family or own and keep up a home.  But we can make you smile, we can make you laugh, we can even make you cry tears of joy and pride.  Now, I don't stand out in a crowd  To most I just look like any other kid.  And there-in lies the problem.  Too many people have the "you've seen one kid you've seen them all" mentality.  Yes, at times we may look alike; smaller, maybe missing a few teeth or crying because we want something at the store.  But one child could be  crying for a doll while another wants Lucky Charms just for the prize inside.  We like different things; different foods, different colors, different activities, different animals.  Some of us may listen better than others or sleep better.  Some of us haven't had chicken pox while others have.  We aren't clones.  We ARE different. We are no more alike than you adults are.  To those who don't like children, I have a question for you.  Why?  You were a child once yourself weren't you?  You didn't just wake up one morning with a home, a family, a job, a normal adult life, did you?  Everyone's been a child.  I'm not going to say that everyone had a good childhood because I know that's not true.  But even if you did have a bad childhood, don't you think we deserve a decent one?  We are the next generation.  Some of us may discover cures for illnesses as adults.  One of us may invent something that could improve the lives of everyone on the planet.  We might not look like a whole lot today, but we could really be someone tomorrow.  Remember, at one point, even Einstein was a child.
