Don't worry, I still remember

Don't worry, I still remember

A Poem by amiri

I've seen it before, I'm sure

When I close my eyes, the memory forms
clouds gathering, liquid in nature
they come together to make up this picture
the colours are distorted, like an impressionist's landscape
but the elation is clear, I relive the breathlessness
the heart tugs at the tail of my coat
probably, more intense in mind than then
a few seconds or less is all there is
then it crumbles away
and rebuilds
once more, and again
until I make you out
that piercing expression
the gaze that I wish I could hold
you have always seen through me and
I, you
in truth
it scares me
so I step away and come to
think past what was, and could be, and what became
and sigh with relief
that after all of it, at least
through the bottling, swallowing, pride and insecurity
love
can still get to me
