IN SANITY

IN SANITY

A Poem by Shweta Sunil
"

Ever thought about how,no one,has the freedom to think differently, how there are pre-set measures of sanity that everyone is forced to follow?

"
IN SANITY   By Shweta Sunil

Somewhere in a land distant

Lay a soul broken, sore

Engulfed he was by forced sanity

Heart he had, but lost it was

In a light that shone too bright..

All that he heard were the echoes

Shouting out loud telling him to let go

His thoughts they did try to mould

Forced he was to confine them

To what was normal, what was 'sane'

When it rained, they ran for shelter

But he, he searched for the sun

Lost he was in the broken lane of his memories..

But he knew... He knew that, in this world

It's not okay to be different

It's not okay to be beyond normal

This world, it is trapped by measures of sanity

Set by stereotypes,by senseless norms

But so he did, he decided to be different

Not wrong, not right, just different

But in a world like ours,

with change being just a word

He tried, but lost sight of the sun.

There ain't no place for none

With a mind that listens to the heart

There ain't no place for him

With a mind tough to impress

When will the world have place for humanity?

When will change be more than just a theory?

When will one's sanity cease to be determined by cowardly sentiments?

When will the day come,

When the heart unites with the soul

And that becomes the true sense of sanity?

~~ wow... this happens to be my favourite subject for contemplation these days... especially in our country (india)... ~~ there are days when i think that our entire country is brimming with insane people who give sane people (who are in a minority) a truly hard time... ~~ i've been at the receiving end of this sort of insanity... expectations that could toss my sanity out of the window and turn me into a prototype of the stereotype...

~~ but returning to your post... you raise all the right issues... and you do so quite skillfully and powerfully... ~~ i really don't know when people like dabholkar, pansare and kalburgi will not be murdered in india... but i'm hopeful... ~~ some days, one sees people talking about your sense of sanity... freedom... individuality... and so on...

Thankyou so much :)
I can only imagine what the society of man in India considers as sane. But I do get your point of being forced into normalcy because the others do not accept you to be different. 'Set by stereotypes,by senseless norms.'

People depend on society culture to give them a sense of immortality. To not have that means to be closer to death but also closer to reality. Does that make sense to you ? Request you to review my story Angst which covers same problems.
