Friendship

Friendship

A Poem by amystewart

I could tell by the mischievous glint in your eyes
I knew we would be the worlds demise
Like most friends we called each other names
But nothing that couldn't be fixed by games

We were convinced we would always be friends
That our friendship knew no ends
But time made us grow apart
We didn't notice it at the start
Time is the only game we couldn't beat
So we started to retreat

Even though our friendship wasn't wise
We tried to ignore it knowing friendship was the prize
But we had to admit defeat
Knowing time had got us beat

I regret that now looking at your grave
Thinking about how we used to misbehave
I walk away from your grave hearing the click-clack of my feet
Wondering why we ever did admit defeat

What a wonderful poem. Very sad and I can definitely relate. I love the rhyming scheme you use. While I read your work I felt like I was there. My suggestion is to watch your spelling (although I'm sure it was just a typo) :
Feat- Feet

Also add punctuation in this poem. It will enhance the rhythm and there will be a break within each stanza.
