A souls tightrope

A souls tightrope

A Poem by anartao

A tightrope strung from distant points that bridge a soul’s abyss
The wobble in the wire when sure footing is amiss
The siren song the darkness sings from far below your feet
That subtle Judas whisper of a silver clad deceit

A game of snakes and Jacob’s ladders on a board as old as time
The rattle of the dice betrays a silence so sublime
Half of chequered black and white , and half all shades of grey
Lines drawn in the sand define but lead so much astray

A lover’s soft caress and tempting whispers in the ear
Becomes a callous fist as understanding disappears
And the fences that we build against the things that we don’t know
Confine as well as fortify and strangle what should grow
