A eulogy for evolution

A eulogy for evolution

A Poem by anartao

Paupers graves like gaping mouths that feed on what we’ve lost,

swallowing the corpses born by dogmas holocaust

Feeding on the flesh turned hard like the minds that have betrayed,

a stillness so oppressive for the winds of change have now been stayed

We knew the end was coming for we could sense the reapers clutch,

ignored and long forgotten was our dear departeds touch

Superseded by mechanical hands and theories carved in stone,

we cast out progression for convenience, and critical thought has been disowned

From Islam to economics we see fanaticism on the rise,

wars become a constant, and we’ve witnessed tolerances demise

Nationalism, governments and archaic testaments of old,

these worn out institutions that have seen us bought and sold

Change is the only constant, and when we dam its many streams,

the stagnant pool we’re left with is a home for no ones dreams,

and when survival of the fittest becomes the rival of the richest

we find co-operation has been hijacked by the armies of self interest

We’ve traded the physical for diabetes,

and our brains for naught but faeces

As we say a sad farewell

to the evolution of our species
