Removed from the mother

Removed from the mother

A Poem by anartao

When the last dead leaf falls silently from a brown and withered limb

will we find solace in our gadgets, a sense of comfort in our toys ?

When we’re the only living things within the oceans that we swim

will we still frolic in the shallows lost in the denial we employ ?

As the mercury marches upwards, keeping pace with barren shores

will we still fear those offered to us by the hands on thermostats ?

As we realise those we entrust to care are naught but thieves and w****s

will we then stand up in firm defence of our only fragile habitat ?

Removed from natures cycles in our synthetic construction

we lose sight of whence we came and who we are,

and it’s that denial of the natural that allows such vast destruction

as the earth that gave us life is raped and scarred

Respect is lost, and options found that simply don’t exist

as we’re fed fairy tales and myths of grand solutions,

to simply stop the devastation seems to be a point that’s missed,

billions spent on research as we ramp up the pollution

What will we offer up to our children, what will we hand down when we leave ?

A ravaged planet , pointing fingers and apologies sincere ?

A patchwork of excuses, the safety blankets that we weave,

that will offer such small comfort to those whose future’s disappeared
