Better never means better for everyone

Better never means better for everyone

A Poem by ashkat
"

I wrote this midway through watching the Handmaid's Tale; considering the parallels, and the possibilities, and the truths already inherent. It's not total fiction at all, is it?

"

Like humanity became a filthy word

The dark became brightness

Sorrow and loss,

                        everyday

The joy no longer to be coveted

I sit, here, alone in the bleakness

With only my memories

And they're the sun cracking light

             The warmth on dampened skin

                The camaraderie of lifelong friends

Those familiar tendrils, that caress no more

      Solitude a gift

An escape from a real reality.

You

You are inverted. Perverted

Timid, compliant. Complicit.

Freemen in freeworlds. Brainwashed. Owned. Privileged.

Benefitting knowingly

From the losses of others...

Surety. Dogma. Piety.

Mine. Yours. Everyone's.

We live the purest sin.

And our only penance is to feel pain.

And our only redemption is to feel anything.
