ChildA Poem by andpoems.comHow do you describe Your love for your child?
Is it an action " What you might or would do Through the perils of fiery circumstance?
Is it that feeling: A yawning cry From the heart For someone So very special to you?
Is it that look; Those eyes that when synched up With yours, you tingle To see, And look into with wonder Asking nothing but to be close, locked, And thus free?
Is it watching In innocent pride Each step into the world The brave child makes, Or the tears of horror When they fall, And that hopeful stride Suddenly breaks?
Is it the knowledge, At once surely found Of the rightness of family, Of a true other, Truly found? Or those giggles Of laughter, A dandelion, Careless sunshine reflected, Found strewn On home-spun ground?
Love. So strange to have one word To cover so much, So many aspects of what has been Nothing short of A body-aching emergence, Profound enough That loneliness, And the clawed cruelty of the world Sit back opposed To a different truth, Full of meaning and hope: Us, greatly human at last, On solid, shared, Blood-red ground. © 2014 andpoems.comAuthor's Note
