Throw Love on the Floor

Throw Love on the Floor

A Poem by Andrew N. Farrens
"

Asinine sentimentality......

"

"You can spend minutes, hours, days, weeks or even months over-analyzing a situation; trying to put the pieces together,  justifying what could've, would've happened . . . or you can just leave the pieces on the floor and move the f**k on."

Tupac Shakur

I’ve thought about things,

Maybe way too much

So I guess I will stop,

Living within my head is not fun

Smoke some damn good weed,

Drink some Wild Turkey 101;

That is today’s lunch

Guaranteed,

To create acid in the pit of my stomach

And

Maybe it will even bleed

Gotta love this f*****g life!!

I promised my Mother I would try

And not die

While she was still alive

In that degree,

Unfortunately for me

This condition directly excludes suicide

What will the Final Solution be?

I stabbed myself in the left eye

Because it empowers despondency

That allows me to see more clearly

Love is a nasty dream

And it doesn’t mean a god damn thing

Except gloomy anguish

That burns the heart in a fiery ring

I’ve loved this girl for close to ten years

But such are my fears

That to her, I was just another a fling

Writing words about her that she will never read

And

My stupidity doesn’t even matter to me

What is the point

Of Cathrin reading my poetry?

If in the end,

She will never love me

After all the words about her have been wrote

As I sit here at my antique desk,

Puffing on dope (marijuana)

I pray for a smart, beautiful woman

That I hope,

Will wrap around my life

And stick to me like tree smoke

That would be wonderful,

The epitome of great

Yet to every girl I know,

I am just a loyal friend

Because I’m not good enough to date

Any of them

The saddest part of not having her,

As I imagine too much again

Is the fact I’m a much better person

And so happy when I’m with her

I don’t even think stupid, like hurtin’

Myself, slowly killing my liver

I hate feeling like this

So I consider the game over

And

I’m going to somehow learn to live

With humility and shame sober

Devoid of her in my life, though

Causes the Winds of Fate

To be oh so much colder......

And time continues forward,

           Not caring

about our Troubles or Fears…………….

Okay, I like this. The words fly smoothly off of the tongue.
I really enjoyed the line about promising not to die before your mother does. That's something my mother says a lot...
I don't love the repeated references to pot. Not because I don't like weed, I just don't feel like it is really necessary to the concept that you are trying to portray. Like, saying it once is enough. It seems to cary more weight than it should.
And on a side note, maybe those girls you know only think of you as a friend because they can see how you are hung up on just that one girl.

A great write straight from the heart. One that illustrates the dangers of making the inquiry and providing the answers ourselves. Its the culture that the web has brought us to. It will still be important to have a friend in flesh and blood.

You can't think that a woman will complete you, your life will be complete (kinda) if you just be yourself, enjoy life and life it to the fullest, do what makes you happy, be a bit of a daredevil, haha!! If you expect a woman to complete you then you are probably expecting way to much from her. You don't need a woman to complete your life... Well not in my opinion, granted it would be nice to share experiences with (I sound like my boyfriend, haha) but if you don't have a girl, it's not the end of the world. I love the way this was written, full of pure honesty, it is a write that really speaks to the reader.

you can't reasonably expect a woman to complete you. you must be who you are above and beyond all other expectations...toughest lesson i ever had to learn. a woman can complement your life..add dimension to it, tenderness, femininity and charm...but you are your own person, bottom line. i love the way you wrote this with dire honesty though, it really sings to the reader.

Nice flow of thoughts in the poem. Love isn't easy. Took me 36 years to find wife. I made many mistakes. Need two people with the same desire and be on the same road. Need luck and kindness. Can't rush love. A lot of strong statements in the poem. Thank you for sharing your thoughts in the excellent poetry.
