On The Way Home

On The Way Home

A Poem by Athena Angel

They told me it would be easier than this
They told me to be prepared for it
I wasn't
I drove down a dark road
Two months ago
I dreamt with eyes open
Dreamt I was going home
But you weren't the one who opened the door

I tried to walk away gracefully
And you tried to come back hatefully
I know it wasn't about me
You didn't miss me necessarily
Just the weakness I had
That distracted you from your own
But still I dreamt of going home
I dreamt I'd seen it before
Until I couldn't see it anymore

And I'm tired of talking about it
Of having it in the back of my mind
When your presence didn't exist
When the hole you took up has been filled
And I miss it all still
I miss the feeling of wanting you
I wish it was something I could still relate to
I dreamt you already knew
You knew it was too late
And I passed your house on the way
On my way home

Very beautiful and magnetic words, I can feel the pain in them.. Very nicely written...
