"

Keeping the Dream Alive!" ~ with Helena ~ Write a POEM or SHORT STORY with the following phrases: "I HAVE WISHED TO KNOW WHY THE STARS SHINE." OR "THIS HAS BEEN MY LIFE; I FOUND IT WORTH LIVING".

"

This feeling of forever lacking something
A very important thing that slipped away
I should have learn, or look at, or felt
I can’t understand what it is and now it is missing…

"THIS HAS BEEN MY LIFE; I FOUND IT WORTH LIVING”
But there is always this feeling of pages missing
Lost somewhere, between coming and going

It can’t be just a “thing” for consume
Or what ever money can buy
Can it be some work of art?
I can’t understand what it is but I know it is missing…

"I HAVE WISHED TO KNOW WHY THE STARS SHINE"
Why birds fly, why adults fight, why children laugh
But in my clocks there seam to be hours missing

May be it is something I should have done
A book I didn’t read, a word I didn’t hear
Some dance I should have danced away
I couldn’t understand what it was and I let it pass…

"WITH EQUAL PASSION I HAVE SOUGHT KNOWLEDGE”
As life becomes a hand full of leaves falling down
And some wind blowing them away

It could be a breathing thing I should have inhale
I didn’t notice it and now is gone
But the perfume of needing it remains behind
I can’t understand this feeling of missing…

“I HAVE WISHED TO UNDERSTAND THE HEARTS OF PEOPLE”
And this sea, immense, remembering and forgetting
Where you can be reborn again and again

I didn’t cry for it, I didn’t laugh with it
But as it passed subtle imprinted itself in my heart
May be it is a thing beyond daily things
An illusion of something missing somewhere

“IN A MYSTIC MINIATURE THE PREFIGURING VISION”
Like a flapping message of some birds wings
Somehow I didn’t understand and now I miss it

This feeling of forever lacking something
It could be love tears or it could be the ocean
Just refreshing my face
How can I search for it if I don’t know what it is?

The Poem by Bertrand Russell from where I quote the verses inside flying comas:

Three passions have governed my life:
The longings for love, the search for knowledge,
And unbearable pity for the suffering of [humankind].

Love brings ecstasy and relieves loneliness.
In the union of love I have seen
In a mystic miniature the prefiguring vision
Of the heavens that saints and poets have imagined.

With equal passion I have sought knowledge.
I have wished to understand the hearts of [people].
I HAVE WISHED TO KNOW WHY THE STARS SHINE.

Love and knowledge led upwards to the heavens,
But always pity brought me back to earth;
Cries of pain reverberated in my heart
Of children in famine, of victims tortured
And of old people left helpless.
I long to alleviate the evil, but I cannot,
And I too suffer.

This has been my life; I found it worth living.

Angie...I think that most of us spend our lives searching for that missing element that we don't know what it is...but search we must. Perhaps it was a memory from a moment of sheer happiness and we have forgotten what brought it about. We all search for a reason to be happy don't we? A wonderful write expressing perfectly that feeling of a pocket of emptiness in our lives.

You really have so many wonderful thoughts in this one that I enjoyed going from reflection to reflection and ending with that powerful question, "How can I search for it if I don't know what it is?" I'd say that question is for each of us to answer for ourselves---if we can. Wonderful entry, Angi! Sharon

Oh well done Angi. How do you keep coming up with these wonderful poems and so quickly too?

"But there is always this feeling of pages missing Lost somewhere, between coming and going"

Good line I could relate to this and the whole feel of your write. Do other's feel like this, that there there is something missing? I wonder what that thing is?

I have feeling that your poem is the start of some wonderful writes for this challenge...I'm glad that you were inspired by the "phrases" that enabled you and your muse to show your awesome talent again!

Thank you for "Keeping the Dream Alive" ~ Helena
