we found woke

we found woke

A Poem by keith
"

4 high schoolers a 64 dodge pick'em up

"
we found woke

calendar marked
with an overly large
red circle reminder
16 feburary 1968
balcony
row 1 center stage

a night to remember

4 life long friends
large treasure secured
 64 dodge pickem up
the voyage of our lives
tickets
tickets
we had tickets

the night to remember

a grand venue
packed to the rafters
sold out   sold out   sold out
we have tickets

we were
ticket kings of the world

smoke filled the air
with the pungent aroma of
mexican grass
alcapulco gold indeed
we had weed
we had tickets

the most important days
no
most important
year

winter
with jimi
i came alive
woke
come another year
fighting for my life
in the nam
i learned to live
my brothers
not so much

their names stand
along side
all the others
a grand gray wall
an accounting
of days past

i see their names
i am reminded
feburary 16
the day we woke

the tears run cold
in loss
the tears warm
with memories
the day we
woke

long live rock ' n roll
peace and love
we found woke

Man I envy you. I remember the year, but I was only 6 years old, too young to be going to concerts. My mother saw him at woodstock. I wish I could have seen him. I'm sorry about Nam. You/no one, should have been sent there.

Really enjoyed your poem. 1968. I am just born. I was thinking about the world and customs that year. Great one
