when I have a daughter

When I have a daughter, I'll say "Sing loud,
Dance among the stars,
Feel the freedom of youth,
Before you get bogged down,
Write all of your stories that your funny head thinks of and don't let those playground boys knock you down without you getting back up and telling them your momma said that you need to fear the light in my eyes because it will push you into the universe with their power. Then you walk away because you're the better woman.

If you feel more comfortable wearing boys clothes and liking boy things then you go right ahead and walk into that boys bathroom and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. If you come home as a teen with your heart broken and decide you're done with mean boys then you can find a nice girl that makes you feel happy.

"Honey," I'll say, "let your smile light a room like you're the metaphorical sun of tomorrow. It might take 8.5 minutes before it reaches everyone else, but they will find out your beauty in no time."
