A Poem by Elle Thompson
"

This is about growing up, and also about my favorite band breaking up.

"

I remember your hands and your gapped teeth

but you grew up and lost your heart

and when I needed you most you wouldn’t smile for me

and I stopped trusting anybody

Grew up and gave in.

and I guess you never did listen

to a thing I said

just watched me eat my own skin and lose little pieces of myself

and strummed on your little shoebox guitar

until we were nothing.

I wrote this yesterday and wanted to submit it IMMEDIATELY, but I waited because I wanted to look at it with fresh eyes this morning. I didn't change much, and I'm still not sure I'm in love with the line "Grew up and gave in", but it was the best of the three versions of this line I wrote

You are most welcome.:)
I really like this poem and your writing style. I love the cadence of the line "but you grew up and lost your heart" and I think "Grew up and gave in" fits the tone of the piece perfectly. Really a fantastic poem, great work! :)
