A Land That Never Stands Still

A Land That Never Stands Still

A Poem by Sean C. Harrison
"

This piece speaks to my native country Jamaica. It describes its beauty found in nature. It captures the land's rhythms and gives a picture of serenity and calm amidst its varied activities.

"
The contoured hillsides will sing with the voice of the trees
As birds fly effortless over her peaks, blue skies sheltering,
The familiar Jamaican sun will trail the canopy
Kindly imparting his warmth to another promised day.
And the streams will whisper their goodbyes
To their well-worn courses as they rush to wed the Caribbean Sea
Who ushers them to unknown shores
Liberating them from their captive springs.
Then evening comes and spreads her wings over the land
And our little home rests but a while till another cockcrow.
And as fresh petitions rise, pleas for a kinder day,
The Jamaican sun again ascends and trails the skies.
Another moment lived chronicles our journeys from time to forever,
Each bird, tree, river, hill,
Playing her part in a land that never stands still.

Well done Sean. Your poem is a great and well observed description of your, obviously beloved, native land. Blue skies, rushing water, green trees and warmth are the impressions that add up to a beautiful island.
All the best,
Alan
