Preamble to a Mad Man's Journal

Preamble to a Mad Man's Journal

A Poem by Anu Soneye
"

The poem shows the line that subsists between the notion of 'freedom' and that of 'madness'. It further shows that many people who think that they exercising freedom are in reality, close to being mad

"

I am a mad man

and so are you.

I don’t walk around stripped,

junk and rubbish are yet to be my feed

and I must say that intellectualism and reasoning are still my creed

but deep inside me is this feeling,

this burning desire to be free.

I want to wear whatever cloth

and if anyone raises an alarm,

I had say ‘leave me alone’

I want to stay out in the sunshine and in the cold

and when anyone raises an alarm,

‘I had say ‘let me be’

I am a lunatic,

insanity has become my diet,

misbehavior, my pill

and I have started to tread the pathway of madness

because freedom is to mad

and madness is to be free

and the crossroad where madness and freedom meets,

that’s me.
