But One Day..

But One Day..

A Poem by Apatheia

I was a small town girl
With hair bows & dresses twirled
Innocent face that glowed
Brighter than fresh fallen snow

But one day you gotta,
One day you oughtta grow up.
But one day you gonna,
Be glued to a red plastic cup.

The nightmares were too much
To just throw away
And during the day they were
Just here to stay

No more escaping
Or day dreaming away..

Divorce will occur
And bodies will pass.
People will off
Life doesn't last.

But one day you're gonna,
One day you'll have enough.
But one day you're gonna,
Break down and never learn how to get up.

I was a small town girl
With hair bows & dresses twirled
Innocent face that glowed
Brighter than fresh fallen snow

Isn't mommy proud?
Of the depressed little anxious girl
Who easily avowed

Isn't daddy proud?
Of the scars on her thighs
And her ribs sticking out?

If flying away was that easy
I'd learn how to fly long ago
I'd leave this town to yesterday
And never again I would show.

My first impression of this poem is unfortunate, I'm not fond of the linguistics. On the other hand, I think of this as lyrics and I could listen to this as song in my head. In the end, the language style adds to the overall feel of the poem, which is the small town girl who suffers to be that perfect, New York model. Therefore, I actually really like this piece for it's message.

Leaving behind our pasts is a very special event when it comes to reshaping our future. I liked how you've pointed out this theme within your poem. Nice work. :)
