Pack Rat

Pack Rat

A Poem by Arthur Rider
"

thoughts on being a pack rat

"

Why am I a pack rat?
Why do I have this obsession?
Is there something I should say?
Something worth confession?

I want to store everything.
All that I can see,
I want to keep with me.

It doesn’t matter what
A paper clip, a letter.
I keep it, I feel better.

I have thousands of boxes
I’ve forgotten what is there.
Throw it away? I can’t bear!

I may discard the junk. “One day!” I say,
“It’ll be that way!”

Why am I a pack rat?
I give up.
I think I’ll go pack.
