She

A Story by ayesha cullen

"
She was walking there, alone. She could hear them come like a rising crescendo. A terrified one. She knew it, as she could feel it in her bones. And yet, she was helpless. The forlorn and serene air around betrayed her. The honking vehicles turned a deaf ear, turning into an amplifier of the shivering cold, that, in moments, ripped her apart, leaving her naked soul and body perched and aching. She was in rubble. Helpless. It was like a thick blindfold draping her eyes, pushing her down and down to a place where there was no fear, no weariness and no expectation. And the vehicles alienated her. The busy streets roared to life.
