Nights

Nights

A Poem by Alexandra

If you look back on it, it ebbs and flows still. Reaches out through the phone and grabs ahold of you. Remember this? You used to smile like this. You used to be like this. You were on this level. You used to be on top of this world. You really had everything at your grasp. The downfall wasn’t pretty, you gained so many sick days watching time pass. Filling your body with the wrong pills, opening drawers to find anything to hold on to. Holding on to everything and nothing. Endless nights awaiting. Until one night he came through the door and lied straight to your face. It’ll be a year later and you’ll still stand by the door reminiscing on a night you couldn’t even get up from sidewalk. Everything will come together, just not now.
