Present Tense

Present Tense

A Poem by Alexandra

When I look at our timeline

It was joy and nerve

To fall in love

Just because-

It’s shocking

For the first time, I don’t want this

For the first time, I want to run

Fast

And lay my head on Kellogg Park

Where I was born

And where I will die

“Women in our family never last with a man”

There is such a sense of profound melancholy within this piece that speaks to love and its aftermath. I found myself moved by these words. Thank you Alexandra for sharing your poem with us.
