Loveless Marriage

Loveless Marriage

A Poem by Alexandra

I read this in an article once
10 signs that tell you it’s over
So it’s not in my head

The allergic reaction on my ring finger is not ironic
Then again, let’s not pretend you wanted it there in the first place

It’s a loveless marriage
The way you end conversations and affirm there is nothing more to discuss

It’s a loveless marriage
I don’t try to fight you on the inevitable

It’s a loveless marriage
Your manner of entering a room without acknowledging me

It’s a loveless marriage
When you turn the lights off and don’t look at me when we try to make love

It’s a loveless marriage
The way I aborted and you stayed in a separate room

It’s a loveless marriage
The two times I gave birth and felt all alone

It’s a loveless marriage…
I can’t help you
Change you
Will you
Can you just please admit that you don’t love me the way I thought you would
