lemon warheads and smoke

lemon warheads and smoke

A Poem by nell vazquez
"

a poem for heavy hearts with so much hope

"

you know those late summer nights that everyone has

every once in a while?

those nights that we never seem to forget?

those nights where the moon never quite goes down,

and the sun never quite comes up?

where the smell of yesterday’s rain still lingers in the air,

and the stars are so crisp in the dark blue sky that your heart

feels heavy and overwhelmed?

you know those nights that keep you thinking?

and you know how you always think that those are the best nights?

well, i like how those nights make me feel.

and i like how you make me feel like those nights feel.

i like how your big arms hold me

and how when you kiss me i can still taste

the lemon warheads on your breath

and when you hug me close, the smell of smoke from last week

inspires my nose.

i like how i try to build myself a wall to keep you out

but i offered you the ball and chain to break it down.

i like how some nights i wanna be alone

but alone with you even with my doubts.

you’re like the ending to those late summer nights

that everyone has every once in a while.

you’re the one thing i can never seem to forget.

you make my love rise

and you make sure it never dies down.
