A TALK THAT WE SHOULD HAVE HAD BUT WE DID’NT!

A TALK THAT WE SHOULD HAVE HAD BUT WE DID’NT!

A Poem by MinHawi

This talk we should have had the very first time but we didn’t

We didn’t because everything happened so fast and went fairly well

But today after our last encounter I wonder ….

If I initiate this talk and share with you my story,

Would you listen to it?

If I open up my world to you,

Would you at least peep in if not take a walk inside?

If I tell you that I was in an emotionally abusive relationship,

Would you believe me?

If I share that the pain that I feel when we are together is not physical but psychological,

Would you understand me?

If I tell you that I lost myself esteem totally,

Would you have a clue of how difficult it is to do anything when you don’t even know you exist?

If I tell you that cutting my hair was part of getting back myself esteem,

Would you even connect with this?

And lastly,

If I share all these with you,

Would you be patient with me as I try to heal me?

This talk we should have had but we didn’t,

We didn’t because I ask myself the same questions I have for a while now;

Would sharing my story make me look like am looking for sympathy?

Would sharing the emotional pain make one understand me or ease my pain?

Would sharing my story make the healing process easier and or quicker?

Would sharing my story make me look like am playing the victim?

Most importantly;

Would sharing my story help me to smile from the heart and not the face?

This talk we should have had but we didn’t

We didn’t but I hope we will.

We will if the Almighty allows us another chance to meet!

My only request is that when we do, whatever your reaction will be, just don’t sympathize with me!

Remain  my friend!

' This talk we should have had but we didn’t .. We didn’t but I hope we will.' Even in those two phrases, the hurt shows.

Your words really got to me, deeply. Firstly, they're put together so finely and concisely yet the emotions are there holding the pen, pressing the keys Secondly. whether fact or fiction your poem truly shows a person finding herself, finding a place, a worth.. and God willing.. finding a friend. What a wonderful combination.
