As I Speak

As I Speak

A Poem by Robert

As I speak,
My words come out,
Slowly, at first,
As I build momentum,
My ideas start to grow.
As I speak,
The screaming silence,
Tears through my ears,
And tears at their minds,
Others listen for words,
Words I can’t build,
Ideas I can’t fathom,
They stare
And I stare,
But I must try,
So the silence suffers
When my words blossom.
As I speak,
The words echo through
Hearts and minds alike,
Swayed by uncertainty
And driven by hope,
Hope that I will ignite,
With the words that rise,
With the ideas that form,
And the vision that shall be.
As I speak,
History speaks for itself,
And future is never spoken.
My words are for now,
When others need them,
When I need them,
They are my power,
They empower the powerless,
Bleed the overpowered,
And bleed through the page.
As I speak,
The others believe
What my words mean,
And my belief’s meaning,
And their hearts beat
To my speech’s hymn
As I sing their song,
And they write the songs
As I rewrite the world,
And their world is mine.
As I speak,
Civilizations crumble,
Under the weight of my words
That weigh on my mind,
My mind is racing
And my heart is racing
Towards the end
I want it all to end,
But my people need them,
My words feed the people
And the people are starving,
They want me to rise
But I can’t feel the sunrise,
All I see is sunset.
I set myself to fail
I fail because I try,
I keep trying to dream
But my dreams are dead
And it’s all in my head,
My head can’t comprehend
These comprehensive speeches
All speak about hope
But I have no hope
I only hope for death,
Hope is dead
Death comes for us all
And we all come to see
The sea of conflict
Conflicts with what they see,
I can’t sway them
And I can’t convince them
That I never wanted war
The war was in me,
My warring self
Urged others to fight
Fighting others spent
A war not meant to be.
All is lost,
All of the lost
Turned their backs
They’re clawing my back
I’m clawing for their hearts
And I’m back at the start.
As I speak,
My words come out,
Slowly, at first,
As I build momentum,
My speech starts to grow.
