A Poem by LA Waning

Your Shadow

Your shadow crawls up your back
to shroud you in it's dark love
but it has teeth and it has claws
and it is looking for something to eat
and your tongue is now a dark whip
your eyes are hollow pits
for which to taste and see
the prey in me

The Roads

A dying woman said to me
you can look at your life as a riddle
Your mortal soul moves left and right
yet your mind is somewhere in the middle
You built an effigy to yourself
to distract your secrets from their gaze
Yet you spent way too much time on the details
now you find yourself stumbling and haggard within their maze

Used to walk upon a path that I laid
with each turn I just became more afraid
that I would never ever reach the end
that I would have to start again
I left that path to let the wilds take me
yet in each new land that fear festered worse
for no matter where I went as far as the eye could see
the roads without end of other women and men
