Young Enough Not to Care

Young Enough Not to Care

A Poem by Brenda Speegle
"

Missing childhood

"
Skipping through puddles of rain.
Stopping to join a pick-up game.
Stuffing ten sticks of gum in my face.
While still young enough not to care.

Laughing too loud at the picture show.
A sniffing nose that should be blown.
Never wanting to return home.
     It is very boring there.

I want to play outside with my friends.
Run along creek beds to their ends.
Play hide n' seek or a game of pretend
     Being grown-up is never fair.

Work day and night, a real go-getter,
There's no time for enjoying bad weather.
I am old enough to know better.
But, still young enough not to care.

This is beautifully written. It really conveys the emotion of longing to be young again and wishing to do what we once were able to. It really struck a cord for me because I am currently in that transition period between young adult and adult. I love this.
