For The Beautiful Juliette

For The Beautiful Juliette

A Poem by Father Mojo

You have so much to offer,
But you settled on a lie.
What once you had to proffer
You now feel has gone awry.

You thought hotness was enough
And nothing more was needed.
You ignored the other stuff;
And so it went unheeded.

It is the stuff you dismiss
That makes you a true beauty.
Snubbing them would be remiss;
I feel it is my duty

To tell you emphatically
You can never hope to hide--
It comes automatically--
Your beauty from deep inside.

You think your beauty’s faded,
But you couldn’t be more wrong!
Beauty can’t be degraded;
You’ll have it your whole life long.

The gift is not the wrapping!
Though it may be alluring,
The paper’s overlapping
The gift it is obscuring.

To see the gift it conceals,
Strip away its paper skin;
It’s only then it reveals
The true gift that lies within.

I will forever avow,
Dear radiant, Juliette.
You are more beautiful now
Than the day when we first met.

Let no tears fall from your eyes;
Don’t let sorrow win the day.
Don’t exhale any sad sighs;
Your beauty can’t fade away.

So when doubts and fears beset
And whisper what is untrue.
I hope you never forget
Your beauty comes shining through.

Father Mojo
Okay, I'm not happy with some of the rhymes either, but I committed to seven syllables a line. So where it sounds stilted, I'll take any suggestions.
