Tribute to Turtles

Tribute to Turtles

A Poem by Lone Wolf
"

Tribute to all turtles...

"

Of one thousand eggs that are laid.

Only one adult is made.

The green turtle who lives in the sea.

Of danger and of tyranny.

Of those eggs which are laid into the beach.

Only eight hundred can make the shell have a breach.

Two hundred never make it out of the egg.

And then those little lives inside are dead.

And there's many more to fear.

For danger is always near.

Birds and crabs shall pray.

On the turtles who stray.

And only four hundred make it to the sea.

The others are left upon the beach.

Only two hundred survive from two to five years.

The others are eaten or are tangled in gear.

There's only one left at thirty to seventy years.

They have lived a long life and have seen much to bear.

They're slow on land but quick in the sea.

A master of disguise, to play as a leaf.

When the males enter they shall never leave.

Condemned to life or death in the sea.

But the ones who survive live a life of glory.

And they have a remarkable story.

Of how they made it, of all the close calls.

How they survived the ocean's cruel laws.

How they played with fire and lived through to tell the tale.

And how they had never failed.

The sea turtle, a remarkable creature.

They are smart, wisdom's teacher.

Creatures of the ocean, master of the waves.

Bow down to the turtle, it's a blessing the ocean gave.

Now THIS is pure poetry! Impeccable flow, rhyming, and a most significant message.

Thanks so much!
Remarkable creatures they be. You've crafted a wonderful poem with the factual knowledge about a real creature and have done so with a smooth flow and cadence. I really enjoyed reading this piece. It not only was easy on the eyes and mind, but it offers us a glimpse into the information about another animal that lives on our planet with us.

Great Ink! Thanks for sharing!
